When I first started with my Cricut I purchased a lot of SVG’s because I didn’t know how to make my own designs. I spent a ton of money doing that and most of the time the SVG’s weren’t exactly what I wanted so it was very frustrating. In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make your own designs in Cricut Design space.

Like I mentioned before, I used to pay anywhere from $2.00 to $5.00 for a SVG that I kind of liked but wasn’t really in love with because I didn’t know how to make my own designs. Now I have a subscription to Creative Fabrica and I get access to 15k+ SVG’s and I can download as many as I want FOR FREE. Not only are they free but they include a commercial license so I can legally sell whatever I make with them.
Are you looking to customize a project or item in Cricut Design Space? Then you will want to know how to use the slice, weld, attach, flatten, and contour tools. These tools are found in the bottom right corner of the design space screen. They will be super helpful to design within Cricut Design Space and I will show you how they each work. Design Space® is a companion app that works with Cricut Maker™ and Cricut Explore® family smart cutting machines. Browse thousands of images, ready-to-make projects, and fonts in the Cricut.
The Cricut Design Space Canvas Area is where all of the magic happens before you cut your projects. Design Space is where you touch up and organize your creations. In this space, not only you can use and upload your fonts and images, but you can also use Cricut’s premium images and fonts via individual purchases, Cricut Access, and Cartridges. But if you return to Cricut Design Space, at this point, you won't see your newly installed System Font. Make sure to close Cricut Design Space. It needs to reload your system fonts. Make sure to save any open work you'd like to keep, before closing the software. Once you've closed Cricut Design Space, open it back up.
In this tutorial I’m making a “Welcome Fall” sign and I’m using 1 SVG and a couple fonts I got from Creative Fabrica. Let’s get started and I’ll show you how to make your own designs in Cricut Design Space. (You can get all the fonts for free too…woo-hoo!)
The Main Design
Pick your main design element. For This project I used apumpkin. I found this set of Fall SVG’s and downloaded all of them but I onlyneeded the pumpkin for my project.

The pumpkin needed just a bit of editing for what I wantedto make so I put a circle in the middle and welded the circle to the pumpkin tomake the center solid. Since the word “FALL” has 4 letters, I duplicated thepumpkin 4 times.

Now it’s time to put the letters inside the pumpkins. Ichose the font “Christmas Story” from Creative Fabrica for my letters. I sized the “F” in the middle of the pumpkin andthen made each of the other letters the same size.
Once I had all the letters placed where I wanted them I “Sliced”each letter out of each pumpkin. (Check out the video tutorial below to see howI sliced the letters.) I found some funfall colors and made each pumpkin a different color.
Adding some words
You’re well on your way to making your own designs in Cricut Design Space. Now it’s time for the “Welcome” at the top. I went over to Creative Fabrica and used the free font manager (This is totally free. No subscription needed.) to pick the font I wanted for my “welcome”.

I used the PUA (private use area) to add some extra flare tomy word. Unlocking the PUA for all myfonts is another reason I really love Fontcloud. I can quickly see all the extra ligatures andswashes each font has and I can easily try them out to see what will work bestfor my project. (The video tutorial below shows how this all works.)
